A jump menu is a form element
used for links, allowing users to "jump" from one page to
another. An example of a jump menu on this Web site is to your
left, the first thing that appears in the scan column with the
text "Switch to." Jump menus allow for more link options
in a smaller amount of space on a page. Follow the directions
below to insert a jump menu into a Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 Web
page.
Inserting a Jump Menu
1. From the Insert menu, select Form Objects,
then Jump Menu. This will bring up the Insert Jump Menu dialog
box.

From here, you will edit all of the entries and
options associated with the jump menu.
Adding Entries
2. There should already be an entry after Text. Change
the "unnamed1" to a heading that describes the following
list of options. Click inside of the box after When Selected,
Go To URL, but don't enter anything. Your first entry is
now entered and it appears after Menu Items.
3. Click the Add symbol in the upper left
to add another entry.

Again, after Text, type in what you want
the entry to be read as. Then, after When Selected, Go To
URL type in the address of the entry or click the Browse button
to browse there. Click OK, or repeat this step to continue
adding entries. Notice that they should be appearing after Menu
Items.
Deleting Entries
4. If you accidentally add an entry you did not intend to,
simply select that entry from the list after Menu Items and
click the Delete symbol next to the Add symbol.

Changing the Order of the Entries
5. If you entered the entries in the wrong order, it is easy
to move them up and down the list using the Up Arrow and Down
Arrow symbols.

Select the entry you want to move from the Menu
Items list and click the Up Arrow or Down Arrow to
move them up or down respectively.
Creating the Jump Menu
6. After Menu Name, name your jump menu whatever you
want. After Options, uncheck both boxes, because neither
is useful for our purposes (our jump menu is essentially a listing
of links). Click OK and your jump menu is created.
