Macromedia Dreamweaver offers a powerful way to
create Web pages and Web Sites. Follow these steps to create a basic
Web page.
Opening Dreamweaver
Select Start then Programs, Macromedia Dreamweaver and
then select Dreamweaver from the list of programs displayed (it
may be inside another folder).
Creating a New Web Page
To create a new Web page, choose File, then New.

Now is a good time to give your Web page
a meaningful title. Under the Modify menu, select Page Properties.
In the Title box type in the name of your Web page, and click OK.

Formatting the Text
Buttons for formatting the text can be accessed from the Properties window.
To view this window if it is not visible,
go to the Window menu choose Properties. Before using
the features in the Properties window, you must highlight the
text you wish to change. For example, to change your text to bold,
first highlight it on your page, then click on the B icon in
the Properties window.
You can also access the full range of formatting
options by going to the Text menu and then choosing Font or Style.
Inserting Digital Images
From the Insert menu, select Image. In the Select Image
Source dialog box, locate the desired image. Click on the Down Arrow to
the right of the Look In box, choose the correct drive, go to the
desired folder, and select the image.

If this image is outside of your Web site, Dreamweaver
will ask if you want to save a copy of the image inside of your Web.
Click Yes.

Dreamweaver will then give you the option of renaming
your image or changing the folder where it will be saved. Make any
necessary changes and then click OK.
Creating a Hyperlink
You can use the Make Link command to create links
to Web pages, links to bookmarks within your page, or insert an email
link. Type in the text you want to serve as the link. For example,
for the text for the link to our training Web site, type: UW TRIO
Training. Use the mouse to select this text. Right-click on the
selected text and choose Make Link from the menu. The Select
File dialog box will come up (as shown below).

In the URL box, type the address of the Web page
you want to link to. In this case type: http://www.mysite.com/train.
Another way to add a link is to select the text, and enter the address
in the Link field of the Properties window.
Saving your Web page
To save your Web page select File then Save
As. At the top of the Save In dialog box, locate the
desired drive and folder on this drive.

Choose a short name (8 characters or less,
all lower case, no symbols or spaces for maximum compatibility) for
your Web page and click Save.
